Santa's Secret Stash
A rich holiday coffee made with Nutcracker Yule Brew, eggnog, cream, cinnamon, nutmeg, whipped cream, and dark chocolate.
Santa's Secret Stash is the sort of drink that belongs near a glowing tree, a pile of wrapping paper, and at least one person insisting they are “just resting their eyes” on the couch.
This festive recipe starts with a strong brew of Nutcracker Yule Brew, then folds in warm eggnog, a little cream, and holiday spices for a cup that feels unmistakably seasonal without becoming pure liquid dessert.
It is rich, cozy, and just indulgent enough to feel like something Santa might indeed keep hidden from the rest of the workshop.
Which is fair. The elves have already had enough sugar.

What You'll Need
Ingredients
-
32 g Nutcracker Yule Brew coffee, coarsely ground for French press
- About 6 level tablespoons ground coffee if you don't have a scale
- 480 ml / 16 oz hot filtered water
- 60 ml / 1/4 cup eggnog
- 30 ml / 2 tablespoons heavy cream
- 1/4 teaspoon ground cinnamon
- 1/8 teaspoon ground nutmeg
- Whipped cream, optional
- Cinnamon stick, optional
- Grated dark chocolate, optional
Equipment
- French press or other standard coffee brewer
- Coffee grinder, if using whole beans
- Kettle
- Small saucepan
- Whisk
- Two mugs
- Kitchen scale, recommended but optional
Eggnog is already doing a lot. Keep the extra cream modest so the drink stays rich and festive instead of becoming a melted holiday pudding.
Coffee Ratio
Start with:
32 g coffee : 480 g/ml water
That's approximately a 1:15 coffee-to-water ratio.
This gives you a strong brewed coffee that can still hold its own once the eggnog and cream are added.
If you're measuring without a scale:
About 6 level tablespoons ground coffee : 16 oz water
Directions
1. Brew the Holiday Base
Add 32 g coarsely ground Nutcracker Yule Brew to a French press.
Heat 480 ml / 16 oz water to just off the boil, ideally around 200°F / 93°C, and pour it over the coffee grounds.
Make sure all the grounds are saturated.
2. Let It Steep
Stir gently, place the lid on the French press without plunging, and steep for 4 minutes.
3. Warm the Nog Mixture
While the coffee brews, combine the following in a small saucepan:
- 1/4 cup eggnog
- 2 tablespoons heavy cream
- 1/4 teaspoon cinnamon
- 1/8 teaspoon nutmeg
Warm over low heat, whisking gently, until the mixture is hot but not boiling.
4. Press and Pour
Slowly press the French press plunger and divide the brewed coffee between two mugs.
5. Build Santa's Stash
Pour the warm eggnog mixture into the mugs of coffee.
Stir gently to combine.
6. Finish the Cup
Top with whipped cream if desired.
Add a little grated dark chocolate and, if you like, tuck a cinnamon stick into the mug as a garnish.
Serve immediately while warm.
Skeleton Brew Tip
Warm eggnog gently and never let it boil.
Boiling can cause the texture to turn grainy or overly thick, which is not the sort of holiday surprise anyone wants.
Low heat and patient whisking keep the mixture smooth, creamy, and much more pleasant in the cup.
Make It Your Own
- Bare Bones Yule: Skip the whipped cream and chocolate for a simpler version.
- Extra Nog: Increase the eggnog slightly if you want a sweeter, richer drink.
- More Spice: Add a little extra cinnamon for a warmer holiday profile.
- Mocha Stash: Add 1 teaspoon chocolate syrup to each mug before pouring in the coffee.
- Less Rich: Replace the heavy cream with milk or half-and-half.
- Dairy-Free Holiday Cup: Use dairy-free eggnog and a plant-based creamer.
- Fireside Version: Add a tiny pinch of clove for a deeper spiced note.
Why It Works
This drink works because it balances a strong coffee base with classic holiday richness.
Nutcracker Yule Brew brings the backbone. Eggnog contributes sweetness, spice, and creamy texture. A small amount of heavy cream rounds everything out, while cinnamon and nutmeg reinforce the seasonal character.
The dark chocolate garnish adds a slight bittersweet contrast, which helps keep the drink from feeling one-dimensionally sweet.
In short, it tastes like Christmas without requiring a sleigh or questionable levels of peppermint.
Recommended Brew
Nutcracker Yule Brew
Nutcracker Yule Brew replaces the retired Christmas Blend as the featured coffee for Santa's Secret Stash.
This recipe needs a coffee with enough presence to carry eggnog, cream, and spice without disappearing into them. Nutcracker Yule Brew gives the drink a strong seasonal base while keeping it unmistakably coffee-forward.
From the Coffee Corner
Holiday coffee drinks are usually at their best when you keep one simple principle in mind: let the coffee stay visible.
Eggnog, syrup, chocolate, whipped cream, and spice can all be fun, but if the base coffee is too weak—or the add-ins too heavy—you end up with a seasonal dessert that forgot how it got here.
Strong coffee plus restrained richness gives you something far more useful: a holiday drink you might actually want to make again.
