What You'll Need
Ingredients
-
32 g Dark Roast Reaper coffee, ground appropriately for your preferred brewing method
- About 6 level tablespoons ground coffee if you don't have a scale
- 480 ml / 16 oz water
- 120 ml / 1/2 cup heavy cream
- 60 ml / 1/4 cup caramel sauce
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
- Whipped cream, optional
- Chocolate shavings or cocoa powder, optional
- 1-2 drops red or pink food coloring, optional
- Small chocolate heart or edible Valentine garnish, optional
Equipment
- Your preferred coffee brewer
- Coffee grinder, if using whole beans
- Small saucepan
- Whisk or spoon
- Two mugs
- Kitchen scale, recommended but optional
Keep the caramel cream warm, not boiling. Gentle heat keeps the texture smooth and prevents the cream from scorching.
Coffee Ratio
Start with:
32 g coffee : 480 g/ml water
That's approximately a 1:15 coffee-to-water ratio.
This gives you a strong brewed coffee with enough intensity to stand up to caramel, vanilla, and cream without turning the drink harsh.
If you're measuring without a scale:
About 6 level tablespoons ground coffee : 16 oz water
Directions
1. Brew the Reaper
Brew 480 ml / 16 oz of Dark Roast Reaper using approximately a 1:15 coffee-to-water ratio and your preferred brewing method.
Divide the finished coffee between two mugs.
2. Build the Caramel Cream
Add 120 ml / 1/2 cup heavy cream and 60 ml / 1/4 cup caramel sauce to a small saucepan.
Warm over medium-low heat, stirring until the caramel is fully incorporated.
3. Add the Vanilla
Remove the saucepan from direct heat and stir in 1 teaspoon vanilla extract.
If you're making the Valentine's version, add 1-2 drops of red or pink food coloring and stir until the color is evenly distributed.
4. Pour the Caress
Divide the warm caramel cream between the two mugs of Dark Roast Reaper.
Pour slowly and stir gently if you want the coffee and cream fully combined.
Or leave it swirled for a few moments if presentation matters more than patience.
5. Finish the Cup
Add whipped cream if desired.
Finish with chocolate shavings, cocoa powder, or a small chocolate heart.
Serve immediately while warm.
Skeleton Brew Tip
Caramel is already sweet. Taste before adding anything else.
Between caramel sauce and whipped cream, this drink already has plenty of sweetness.
Adding extra sugar before tasting can quickly bury the coffee.
Start with the recipe as written, then adjust from there if your sweet tooth insists on getting involved.
Make It Your Own
- Bare Bones Caramel: Skip the whipped cream and garnish for a simpler cup.
- Salted Caress: Add a tiny pinch of flaky sea salt to the caramel cream.
- Mocha Cupid: Add 1 tablespoon chocolate syrup to the caramel cream.
- Lighter Love: Replace some of the heavy cream with whole milk.
- Dairy-Free: Use a rich oat or coconut-based creamer and dairy-free caramel sauce.
- Iced Cupid: Chill the coffee and caramel cream separately, then combine over ice.
- Extra Vanilla: Increase the vanilla slightly for a softer dessert-like profile.
Why It Works
Caramel and dark coffee work well together because both bring roasted and cooked-sugar flavors to the cup.
The caramel adds sweetness and depth, while the cream softens Dark Roast Reaper's intensity and gives the drink a richer texture.
Vanilla sits in the background, rounding out both the coffee and caramel without needing to dominate either one.
The stronger 1:15 coffee ratio matters because the drink contains several rich ingredients. A weak coffee base would disappear quickly.
Recommended Brew
Dark Roast Reaper
Dark Roast Reaper is the featured coffee for Cupid's Caramel Caress.
Its darker, fuller profile gives the drink enough structure to remain recognizable alongside caramel, vanilla, and heavy cream.
That makes it a natural foundation for a drink that leans indulgent without becoming nothing but sugar and dairy.
From the Coffee Corner
Caramel coffee is a useful example of why home recipes benefit from building flavor in layers.
Start with strong coffee. Add one sweet element. Add cream for texture. Then taste.
That sequence gives you far more control than simply pouring in syrup until the mug tastes like dessert.
And if you want to turn it pink for Valentine's Day, nobody is going to stop you.
